Abstract
The social world has been experiencing disruption from various phenomena in the first decades of the 21st century. The Fourth Industrial Revolution have been contributing to changes in people’s lived experiences. Disruptive technology altered the production, consumption, and human interaction and relations. Such alteration and transformation have been affecting gendered people and relations in various societies. It is timely to examine the social, economic, and economic fallout of these changes on the experiences and debates on binary genders, heteronormativity, and hierarchical differences in various cultural context in Asia and beyond. The disruption and transformation in various arenas of social lives have been complicated by the repercussions of Covid-19 pandemic. The measures of various states to contain and prevent the spread of the pandemic by limiting activities and movement of people disturb their daily lives and living condition. Lived experiences vary due to gender, economic class, and other factors. The pandemic emphasized how gender and other axes of inequality had shaped the diverse forms of sufferings and limitations for various groups of people.
The 6th Congress of AAWS invite scholars and activists on gender and sexualities issues, as well as other fields of studies, to explore are examine the impact of advanced technology, the Covid19 pandemic, and the interplay between the two phenomena on the lives and wellbeing of gendered people from local to global levels. The Congress aims to explore and exchange ideas and knowledge on such issues from the perspectives and experiences of women and gendered people in the context of the binary gender system and heteronormativity.
